I have done School Experience during two weeks. For second week, I should do team teaching with my team consist of Wia and I. Through My master teacher named Mr. Iswandi, we got chance to did team teaching in tenth grade is X-2 for two meetings. We taught about quadratic equation.
We made the lesson plan based on RPP (Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran) and syllabus of the master teacher.
At the first meeting, I felt nervous because it was the first time I taught in a real class. I felt afraid I could not deliver the materials as well. We combine models of instruction they are Direct Instruction and Guided Discovery. When we delivered materials, there were only a few students who pay attention. We have been reprimanded students who do not pay attention, they return attention, but after while they do not attention again. That is the difficulties when we teach. After delivered our materials, we asked them to do two stay and three stray and answered problems. We asked they wrote the answer on the flipchart. During to do it, we guided them for helped the problems. Because time had run out, they did not have time to do 2 stay 3 stray. Finally, we can do it the next meeting.
The second meeting, we continued the next material. We have prepared the other strategies to implement our lesson plan. In that meeting, we prepared small games using PPT. They felt happy and when we interviewed three of students in X-2, they said that, “We are very happy with the way you teach, because Mr. Iswandi never given games like what you did”. I thought, the second meeting is better than before because I did not feel nervous. End of the class, we given post test for each two students. In that class was very noisy, probably because we did not make agreement before the class begun.
Some of students always played mobile phone when we teach. I thought, probably because it was not real teacher who teach. But when Mr. Iswandi who teach the other class, students also played mobile phone. So, my team can not prohibit them. When we interviewed our master teacher about mobile phone, he said that he allows the students to use their mobile phone but after he given the material. But I thought, it is not effective because when he given the material, they played mobile phone. He has three learning methods, they are story telling, discuss, discovery but tucked into the things that are planting the moral character. He also allows students to teach during exams as long as not get caught. It is the rule of the teacher.
Through this school experience I can learn how to make lesson plan that is characterized, and how manage the students. I thought the rule of class is important things, so if I become a teacher, I must make a rule with agreement of my students. The obstacle which I got in school experience is get attention from the students. I hope SSE’s lecturer can share how get attention from the students. J J J
